What you are really asking
Six questions, and the answer to each
- “Is my kid actually good enough for D1?”
- D1 is 560 of the 2,215 four-year programs, and "good enough" is not one bar — it is different at every one of them. We score your player against all of them and show the reasoning, so the answer is a list of programs rather than a verdict.
- “What level should we be targeting?”
- The levels where the roster, the recruiting history and your player's own league line up. That is usually a range across two divisions, not a single tier, and seeing the spread is what stops a family aiming at one level and missing the others entirely.
- “Are we wasting time emailing schools that will not reply?”
- Often, yes — and for two reasons you can check in advance. D1 and D2 coaches mostly cannot reply before June 15 after sophomore year, and a program carrying four players at your position was never going to answer. Both are visible before you send.
- “What schools actually need someone at my kid's position?”
- The question almost nothing answers. We read 65,486 published roster spots by position and class year, so you can see who is ahead of them and who graduates.
- “Are we overlooking schools?”
- Almost certainly. Most lists are built from the handful of names a family has heard of. Every program in the country is scored for your player, which is how the good fits nobody mentioned surface.
- “Is my kid's GPA helping or hurting?”
- Both, and the split is the useful part. Academic fit is scored separately from athletic fit and never blended into it, because getting in and getting on the field are different questions with different answers.
